5 quarts and have a quart on hand for a month or two later. The filter will absorb as much as a quart from waste oil and sludge. I use Napa filters and Kendal synthetic mix. My last 89 Seville had 475k miles before the head blew. And that was only the result of a cracked radiator. Kendal is not the most expensive but that's all I use and obviously it's been good to me.
