My 2000 Focus 1.6 Zetec has around 94k miles on the clock and still turns in around 42mpg average. Keeping to 70 max on a longer run can bring in around 46 and traffic jams and aircon on in summer can get down to 38. I drive gently, not slowly, and turn off the engine in jams and at traffic lights. Hope this is of some use, but driving style is a big factor in fuel consumption, cane it and it costs!
Diesel or petrol?
The 2004 Ford Focus sedan has a 4-cylinder engine, and gets 22 miles per gallon in the city, and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. It has 130 horsepower.

35 Miles per gallon.
I think something is wrong with my car as the mpg is about 25 for city driving. I do feel this is quite low. What do you think?
