Of the final rear wheel drive generation, 1978 and 1979 were the only two model years GM offered a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission in the Elcamino and all G body models. A manual transmission swap into an '86 would be fairly simple using the components from a salvaged '78 or '79 model (although they are not easy to find). I hope this helps, I own 3 factory manual transmission G bodies. A '78 Monte Carlo, a '79 Monte Carlo and a '79 Cutlass.
