Unless you have fog lights which are specifically designed for the purpose you are better of using your low beam. if your low beam lights run off a relay, then that might have expired. will need replacing if it has.
About 160 feet - just about the distance you need if you slam on the brakes for a sudden stop!

Believe it or not, you might have 2 BURNT OUT LOW BEAMS. Ive seen that a few times.
