take the hoses off of it and unbolt the steering column from the box, pull the steering link arm off the bottom of the box and then unbolt the box from the frame and pull it out.
take it to a garage
Replace the whole rack, it would take speical tools to replace seals
Depending on if its a manual or power steering rack its going to vary a little. The steering rack is mounted to your sub frame which is located under the lower half of the firewall. There is only 4 bolts that hold your steering rack in place. 2 are on the passenger side and they mount down a D clip. The other 2 are located on the driver side next to the steering column joint (or gear box for steering) There is one on top and bottom of the rack, I believe they are 14mm. Power steering is mounted the same way but you have lines to deal with which can get frustrating.
Worn steering parts. I would strongly suggest you take this car to a mechanic, have it put on a rack, and the steering components inspected.
Take the hose off of the steering rack and plug it so the fluid won't run out and then take the other end of the hose off the steering pump.
You need to remove the old one. For that you need to put your car on stands, remove front wheels. Remove the sway bar link. Drain the steering fluid out of the system. Disconnect the steering column from the rack. Disconnect two pipes coming from the power steering pump and going to the power steering fluid reservoir. After that disconnect the tie rods. Remove two bolts attaching the rack to the car body. Take out carefully the rack out of the car through the left side. Installation is opposite to the removal. Make sure that you align marks on the steering column and the rack. Refill and bleed the system.
Take the old one out and put the new one in
it doesn't have one. It does however have a rack & pinion unit
Jack engine up to take weight and pressure off old, unbolt and replace
The most effective and accurate way is to take it to a local reputable auto repair facility that has an alignment rack. Have them do a complete alignment. Your steering wheel should be straight after.
yes they do... use dexron 3 friendly atf in your lexus power steering only... do not use power steering fluid!!! or you will be buying a new pump and rack and pinion... not to mention corroded hoses...
