how do you set timing on 2001 malibu 3.1
Chevy S10 in 2001 didn't have a 2.0L engine. They had a 2.2L engine and it has a (DIS) distributorless ignition system. There is no timing to set.
It requires an ENGINE SCANNER to set the ignition timing on that year of engine.
no adjustment!! set at factory.

The timing is computer controlled and there is NO need to fool with the timing as long as you have not moved or touched the distributor. It requires an OBDII engine scanner to adjust the timing.
It is electronic controlled and requires an OBDII engine scanner to set the timing if it has a distributor. If it don't have 1 then there is NO adjustment for the timing. You did not give the engine size.
