If your truck is all original, AND has all of the under hood stickers, the answer is there. One critical point is to remember to disconnect the plug on the single black wire coming from the relay center on the vehicles left side of the fire wall. It's the "T" shaped plastic cover, usually black plastic.
Once you disconnect that wire, set the timing as specified on the label on the fan shroud. For instance, on my truck, the setting is "0". When you are finished, shut the engine off and reconnect that plug. Disconnecting it has something to do with the computer "seeing" the settings (I think).
For further information, refer to your manual, or a trusted dealership.
I just set my timing and the plug on my 1994 full size Chevy Blazer (same as a full size pick up) was directly under the glove compartment. It was one wire (tan with black stripe) and two ends of a plug together just unplug and set timing.
That requires an OBD2 engine scanner to set the timing. You can NO longer use a timing light.
The timing is electronic controlled. You MUST have an OBDII engine scanner to set the timing to specs. Timing light will not work.
all Chevy tbi's are to be set at 0 degrees
You need a timing light to set the correct timing. Once the truck has been set at base timing at 0-2 degrees by disconnecting the timing wire and setting the dist., the computer adjusts the timing by itself to the proper setting.. There is not an adjustment for the the idle speed on this truck.
That requires an OBDII engine scanner to set the timing on that year. A timing light is no longer used, It's a thing of the pass. It is all computer controlled now.
How do you set the timing on a 2000 Chevy blazer (V6)
Need to know the year, and what it's in they are all different.
0 top dead center.
8 degrees btc Timing should be at 0 degrees ATDC that is factory XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX You need to set the base timing on any car/truck that has a distributor. There is a tan/black wire that is usually under the dash down low on the passenger's side. This is the Electronic spark timing and the connector has to be apart to set the timing. That will put the computer offline while you set the timing to the specifications. There is usually a decal under the hood. Once the timing is set then reconnect the connector The base timing is set NOW the computer will take over from there
In order to set the timing on a 98 Chevy 350 vortex, you have to time with a scan tool that will let you set timing. Or let garage do it
