In order to remove the headlight switch of a 1988 Cadillac Eldorado, you must first disconnect the negative cable from the battery and allow time for the capacitors to discharge. Unscrew the headlight switch, remove the wire plugs, and remove the switch itself. Insert a new switch and replace the wire plugs and screws. Reconnect the negative cable and test the new switch.
With the Key ON, do not start the car, using the A/C control panel, press the OFF and the PASS UP button for 3 seconds at the same time.

i have the same problem on my 97 eldorado. the transmission is too close to the bolt to get a socket around it. you would have to take the whole engine out or take it into a repair shop and be sure to tell them exactly what the problem is so that they dont spend a bunch of time looking for something else wasting your money.
to reset the change oil message, hold the Eng-Data and Range buttons at the same time until you see the 100 on the drivers information center.
