  • Pop open the hood of your Grand Prix and prop it open with the rod. Locate the battery under the hood and find the "-" symbol, indicating the negative battery terminal.
  • Find a bolt attached to the cable and loosen it with a wrench. Slide the cable off the terminal and take care not to touch it to anything -- especially to the positive side of the battery.
  • Wait 30 minutes for the electricity to drain out of the computer and to allow the computer to reset itself.
  • Put the cable back on the negative terminal and tighten the nut with a wrench. Lower the hood.
  • Put the key into the ignition and start the vehicle. Check the instrument panel to make sure all warning and service lights have turned off.
