behind the radio across the back of the center console
There is no ECU reset button.
It is located behind the radio.
Ecu is fried or your wires somewhere are touching and will cause your ecu to fry! Happened to me, that's why I'm on here.
It is behind the battery.
no an automatic has a sensor it reads to down shift and driving habits including the dreaded crank senser and cam pickup
Your transmission is locked in limp mode. You need to take it to a qualified mechanic to performance diagnostics on the ECU to determine the failure code. When my 91 Stealth ES did that, it was a combination of a shorted plug wire, and ignition coil. Once repaired the ECU needs to be reset.
Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, that will reset the ECU...
Disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5 minutes will reset the ECU. However, it will just come back on if the problem that caused it to illuminate is not repaired.
My 1992 Dodge Stealth ES is doing the same thing.. and I had the tranny rebuilt only about a year ago.Turns out, the Transmission ECU was fried... no power to the tranny at all so it defaults in 3rd gear...Do you have a 'PWR' & 'ECO' transmissions mapping switch in your center console? One indicator for me that the ECU was fried is that the light on the dash board did not come on when it was set to Power. (No lights should be on when it is on economy.)Hope this helps.
