take the bolts out that hold the covers to the engine and pull the covers off then scrape the old gaskets off the valve covers real good and make sure where the gaskets contact the heads of the engine that it is also clean, get some permetex and put some on the valve covers where the gasket goes in to hold them in place when you lay the new gasket in place and let it dry for about 10 minutes and then your ready to put the covers back on and tighten the bolts down to about 10 to 15 ft. lbs.

Begin by removing the valve cover retaining bolts. Peel the old gasket off and clean the surface. Put the new valve cover gasket on. Replace the valve covers to their original position.
To change the valve cover gaskets on a 1998 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L, disconnect the battery cables. Then use a wrench to loosen the valve cover bolts. Remove the old gasket from the cover and the manifold using a cleaner designed for this purpose (found at automotive parts stores). Put adhesive on the manifold, and valve cover. Line with a new gasket on the valve cover and replace the valve covers. Tighten the bolts and re-connect the battery.
