sure it's the motor and not the window regulator? The regulator is made of plastic (stupid VW they know it's a problem and won't do a recall) when it breaks the window is stuck down because the cables twist. I have this problem now and went to VW site and they have a video online to show how to fix the problem. But you have to order the parts from them.
The window sash clips connect the door glass to the regulator. The part # for the 2000-2004 is 22689012. Once the glass is out You can heat and remove the old sash and epoxy the new ones in place!

It probably hasn't fallen off the track. The part of the window regulator that attaches to the window is probably broken. Mine did the same thing. I took the window and regulator out of the car and epoxied the part back together and then reinstalled it. Been over a year now and still working fine.
