It is located in the front of the engine towards the top. If you follow the radiator hose it will lead you to the thermostat. There are two bolts that hold it in place. You can remove the bolts fairly easily and replace the thermostat. It is important that you make sure that everything is clean when you reassemble everything.

The thermostat on a 4.7L is located where the lower radiator hose hooks the engine. The thermostat is located under the housing where the lower radiator hose hooks to the block.
Where the lower hose goes on the engine, it is under that housing.
Drain the radiator. disconnect the top radiator hose from the engine. Remove the water inlet that the hose was hooked to. The thermostat is in the housing. Replace the gasket when replacing the thermostat.
It is under the housing that the lower rad hose hooks to.

On the 3.7L and 4.7L the thermostat is under the housing where the lower radiator hose hooks to the engine.
Follow the lower radiator hose to the engine, it is there.
Follow the top hose from the radiator to the top of the motor. The thermostat is inside the housing where the hose connects. There are two bolts to remove and you should be able to lift off the cover and find the thermostat. Simply swap it out & reassemble.
There is no assembling it. If it is apart, replace it. If you mean how is it installed, the spring side goes towards the engine block.
It is just to the passenger side of the thermostat housing.
