Open trunk, lift up the matting and in the middle you will see a round hole about 3"-4"
There is a wire attached to it.
Unscrew the wire and move out of the way.
Take a pair of channel lock pliers and open them to fit down on remaining ring.
Turn the ring about 1/4 turn and it will come lose.
There is a gasket under that, be careful not to loose it.
Lift the sending unit right out of the tank and replace.
**When you put the new unit in, be sure to face the arm the same way as the one you took out.**
Replace rubber gasket and carefully twist the locking ring back on.

When i bought my thunderbird the key to the ignition didnt fit the door locks so i had to replace the locks. That might be the best answer. :]

The 1957 Ford Thunderbird came from the factory with power steering. If the unit is not functioning properly it may be unsafe to drive it. So, yes, the system should be fixed if not propelry working. If you located a 1957 Thunderbird that did not have power steering factory installed, there is no benefit to doing the extensive work to fit the equipment, and it will lower the value of this rare car you found.
You can replace the locking cylinder, on your 1994 Ford Thunderbird, by removing the inside door panel. The locking mechanism will be visible with the door panel removed.
