It is very difficult. The heater core is attached with Ford quick disconnect clips. However, the clips are neary impossible to reach on the fire wall. There is a special tool but it is hard to find. I have heard that autozone has a lender. I got my heater core out by using a ripping saw with a long metal cutting blade from inside the car. I cut the tubes protruding from the old core. There is just enough room to get to them. Then you can pull the hoses out and remove the clips. But beware, it is just as hard to get a new core in as to get the old one out. There is just not enough room to fit the new core in. I did it but somehow but because of all the twisting and tugging I put a hole in the new one and now have to start over or consider junking this car. Why car makers design thing this way I can explain but it is annuying.
