It's the switch because the motor is getting power to go up but not down.

If you press the switch and hear the motor running, the the gear kit needs to be replaced. If you do not hear it, look at the dome light and see if it dims when you press the switch. If it does then you have a bad motor.
First, remove the door panel. Depending on the location of your particular vehicle there will be bolts holding the window motor in place, or rivets that must be drilled out to remove the motor. Take the door panel off,you will need to remove 3 bolts for the window motor and then 3bolts(maybe4) that hold the regulator to the window
The correct gap is .044
remove plastic moulding around door handle and door lock. unscrew door handle and unsnap plastic anchors around lower portion of door unscrew door panel from door. lift up on panel and remove. remove plastic. unscrew motor from door , let window down and remove two screws holding window. remove motor and metal bar replace and reverse process. 1991 Nissan maxima
take the door panel off and unbolt the regulator and jam the window until you can replace the regulator
