Check to see, but on my 1996 Tahoe, you need to start from the side that faces front of the vehicle and push backwards on the grille to expose the 3 tabs that hold the grilles into the headliner. After removing the grilles, use a nut driver or 1/4 inch drive socket set to remove the 4 screws securing the speaker. Make sure to wear safety glasses, because flakes of the headliner insulation tend to sprinkle into your eyes when removing the speakers.

yea i have a 99' Tahoe. its a pain to get the cover off without it breaking but just do like the guy above said. but once you get it out just beware that the speaker mounts are solid steel. so if you don't get the same size speakers then its a pain to cut the mount. but i managed to, and i fit some like 6" x 10" in the back of mine. so just beware of the work your going to have to put in.
