To remove the radio from a 1984 to 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity:
This is a long process just to take the radio out. Take your time.
First remove the under dash cover. Also remove the cover under the steering column.
Next remove the lower trim panel, the panel in front of the radio. To remove it:
Remove the glove box. Then reach up through the back of the dash and remove the 5 push nuts from the trim panel. Unbolt the fuse block from under the dash, there are 2 screws to the lower dash and 1 screw into the ashtray slide. Remove the ashtray and unbolt the remaining 4 screws holding the slide in place. Remove the slide.
Reach up through the back of the dash and unplug the cigar lighter. Next unscrew the cigar lighter cover and pull the cigar lighter out the front.
Next use a flat head screw driver find the slit in the headlight knob and use the screwdriver to release the knob and remove it. Next use a screw driver to take the nut off of the headlight switch shaft.
There are tabs on each end of the panel, they slide into the metal dashboard. Pull gently on the center of the panel flexing it out towards you. This will cause the end tabs to pull out of the dashboard ends. BE VERY CAREFUL TO AVOID DAMAGE to the end tabs. They are what hold the ends in place, it will be very floppy without them.
Once the tabs are out reach behind the panel and unplug the rear window defogger if there is one. CAREFULLY work the panel away from the steering column and put it out of the way.
Remove the 3 screws that hold the radio in place. Carefully pull the radio out so you can unplug the antenna and then unplug the wiring connectors. Take note of how they come off.
To install the radio basically reverse the removal process.
Remove the cover from your 1986 Chevy Cavalier radio. Remove the radio retaining screws. Slide the radio out and remove the wiring harness and the antenna cable.
To remove the glove box on a Chevy Celebrity pull the glove box out, then push up on the tab on the underside of the box to release the latch that keeps the globe box in. It will then simply pull the rest of the way out.

To remove the steering column in a 1986 Chevy Celebrity: 1. Remove the trim panel under the steering column. 2. Remove the noise panel. 3. If the car has column shift remove the gear indicator from the shift bowl. 4. Unplug electrical connectors. 5. Remove the four bolts that hold the steering column up. 6. At this point the steering column should pull out.
To change the alternator in your 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity: 1, Remove the battery ground cable. 2. Unplug remove the wiring from the alternator. 3. Loosen the bolts that hold the alternator in place. Remove the drive belt. 4. Remove the bolts and the alternator will pull out. Reverse the process to reinstall the new alternator.
Does your 1986 Chevy Celebrity have the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine or the 2.8L V6?
Remove trim around radio carefull there might be screws on bottom side of dash when trim removed shoul be 4 bolts holding in radio undo those slide radio forward remove antenna wires and 3 plugs in back of stereo. also common for gm tape players to go out you can remove screwws and exchange tape player itself in radio with just screews no soldering

Open trunk and remove panel at rear, remove butterfly bolt and tail light assembly should pop out for accessibility to bulbs

Reach up behind the dash and unplug the wire harness from the cigar lighter socket, then unscrew the outer shell from the socket. 4. The socket will now pull out the front of the dash. Reverse the removal process to reinstall the cigar lighter.
