The engine and transmission are removed out the bottom as an assembly.
it is behind the passenger side headlight assembly. you will have to remove the headlight assembly to replace it.
i have a 2002 dodge truck and this is how it is done; 1) lower the tailgate 2) There are 2 "torx" screws holding the housing on, remove them 3) The wire that leads to the bulb mount must be removed, there is a red lock on it, slide the lock to the left (from the top) and then remove the taillight assembly. 4) there are 4 Phillips head screws holding the light bulb mount, remove them and pull the mount from the lens assembly 5) replace bulbs 6) installation is the reverse of the dis-assembly. Have fun !!!
From the inside.
There is a pin in the taillight that needs to be pulled straight to the side. Do not leverage it or the taillight might crack. My 2002 Sienna has 2 pins. By pulling the taillight assembly straight out sideways (perpendicular to the side the car), with a little gentle leverage from above and below, it popped out nicely. Be careful and gentle.
yes the taillight does in fact have a cicuit board. Once you take off the two bolts to remove the entire fixture the circuit board is the long plastic piece with the 4 screws holding in your 3 light bulbs
I believe you have to unscrew a couple bolts on the inside of the truck bed to get the taillight assembly off the truck then you can unscrew the light sockets and replace the burnt out bulb

Changing taillight assembly Jeep libertyI copied and pasted this from another blog.....it works perfectly!!!!For the drivers side taillight assembly remove the two screws on the side of taillight assembly. You need a special star screw driver (called "Torx", the come in different sizes). Don't strip the screws. If you do you will be in a world of hurt trying to remove these screws. You have to swing the tailgate open to see the screws. Once those screws are removed you have to pry the taillight assembly from the vehicle. Pry it straight out using a couple of large screw drivers as pry bars. Be careful not to scratch the paint. There are two plastic shafts that clip into the body. They run along the outside edge of the light assembly. Apply steady pressure with the pry until they come loose. It will take some force to break them free. Do not try to pull the assembly out with your hands from outside the vehicle as you will probably break the assembly.
on all dodge trucks the way you change the bulbs is simply unscerew the tail light assembly and remove it from the rear of the vehicle and you will see your lightbulb fittings right on the back of the light assembly
You Need A Special Tool, Which You Can Buy At AutoZone Or Something. You Open The Tail Gate, Then You Use The Special Tool To Unscrew the Screws And The Taillight Comes out.
