The torque strut mount must come out along with the mount to remove the alternator
The bottom strut mount is connected to the frame by two retaining bolts. Remove the retaining bolts to remove the strut mount. Reverse the process to install the new strut mount.
There is one on the front passenger side and a torque strut on the front. The torque strut acts like a motor mount.
You can replace the strut cartridges without removing the entire assembly. Simply jack up the front of the vehicle, and rest it securely on jack stands. Remove the top cover plates covering the strut towers (held on by three nuts). Once the plate cover is off, remove the upper strut nut, and remove the rubber mount. You'll need a special die-tool to remove the strut cartridges.. Remove the old ones, install the new. Torque them to the proper spec. Re-install the mount, the upper nut, and the plate cover. Torque all nuts to the proper specs.... ENJOY!!! You can replace the strut cartridges without removing the entire assembly. Basically, the purpose of the torque strut mount is to keep the engine and transmission from vibrating excessievely. This smooths the ride, keeps the engine/transmission from excessivel stressing the engine/rtansmission mounts on the frame, and provides for a smoother ride and better drivability. Without the torque strut mount, the top of the engine would be unsupported and damage to the drive train would occur.
You've got 4 mounts total. A transmission mount, then on the other side of the motor, you've got a mount that goes to the middle of the engine that is in the fender, and upper torque strut and a lower torque strut on that same side.
remove the rear wheel, undo the bottom bolt of the strut. inside the car remove the plasic paneling in the back covering the strut mount. unscrew both nuts and pull the strut out.

CAREFULLY! VERY CAREFULLY; You will need a spring compressor; Lift car,Remove 2 bolts on lower strut, Remove 3 bolts on top mount, Remove complete strut-spring-top mount from car. Compress spring CAREFULLY, Remove top mount. REPLACE STRUT. Hint before you remove the two bottom bolts paint or mark location, this way you can put it back close to orignal location, But you will still need a front-end alignment. Be CAREFUL
the same as every strut mount. to hold the struts
First you must remove the rear seat to gain access to the top strut mounts. The bottom of the rear seat comes out first. On the 96 model there are two tabs at the base of the seat bottm that you pull forward to release the seat bottom. I'm not sure if the 93 is the same. After removal of the rear seat bottom, you will see a bolt at the bottom of each side of the rear seat back that need to be removed. Fold down the arm rest and disconnect the vinyl cover at the base of the armrest to expose and remove two screws. Push up on the rear seat back to unhook three plastic hooks (center and one at each end) at the top of the rear seat back. Remove the seat back. Remove the large metal support panel that is behind the seat back. Safely jack up the rear of the car and support on jack stands so the rear wheels hang free. Doing one strut at a time, remove the two top strut mount bolts leaving the center strut stud nut in place. The strut and mount will lower out of the unibody. Disconnect the bottom strut mount. Remove the strut/coil spring assembly. Using a strut/spring compressor (some auto parts stores rent these) compress the spring. Carefully remove the top strut stud retaining nut, top strut mount, bumpers and strut boot. Carefully install compressed spring, strut boot, bumpers and top strut mount on new strut and install washer and retaining nut. Reinstall strut and etc. in reverse order.
* Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the car and support it securely on jackstand.Remove the wheels * Place a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it slightly. The lower control arm must be supported throughout the entire procedure * Remove the ABS harness from the strut and remove the ABS sensor. If equipped * Remove the brake line bracket from the strut * Remove the stabilizer bar link from the strut * Mark the postions of the bolt heads to the strut then remove the strut to steering knuckle fasteners by loosening the bolts * Mark the upper strut mount in relation to the body, lower the control arm slightly and then remove the upper mount to body fastners * Separate the strut assembly from the steering knuckle and remove it from the car.Dont allow the steering knuckle to fall outward as the brake hose could be damaged.
