thermostat
No, you will not have to drain all the coolant to change the thermostat on a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. Only the hose that is connected to the thermostat needs to be drained.
The thermostat housing is held down by two bolts. Remove the bolts, remove the old thermostat. Install new thermostat with a new gasket. Reinstall housing. Fill coolant. Warm engine up, and recheck coolant level.
Follow the upper radiator hose to where it meets the engine. Remove the two bolts of the thermostat housing and remove and replace the thermostat.
Under the housing that the upper hose hooks to on the engine.
It is under the housing that the upper radiator hose hooks to.
Absolutely!
Spring towards the engine.
Dust cover on what?
That depends on the engine. I believe that the 2.4L needs a 10mm socket, the 3.0L uses a 12mm, and the 3.3L/3.8L use a 13mm socket to remove the housing bolts.
remove the radiator hose attached to the engine side, remove the two bolts on that casing the hose was just attached to, take special note to remember how the thermostat was in there to duplicate the exact position of the new one and also so you do not lose the gasket on the old thermostat. remove old thermostat and insert new one as the old one was positioned. replace casing and bolts and upper radiator hose.
Should be in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
