Blower Motor and Fan Replacement (RPO C42)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

  1. Disconnect the VCM or the PCM.
  2. Remove the coolant reservoir.
  3. Remove the rear coolant recovery reservoir mounting stud.
  4. Disconnect the cooling tube from the blower motor.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector (1).
  2. Remove the 5 blower motor and tan assembly mounting bolts (2).
  3. Remove the blower motor and fan assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  1. Install the blower motor and fan assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

  1. Install the 5 blower motor and fan assembly mounting bolts (2).

Tighten

Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in) .

  1. Connect the electrical connector (1).
  1. Connect the cooling tube to the blower motor.
  2. Install the rear coolant recovery reservoir mounting stud.
  3. Install the coolant reservoir.
  4. Install the VCM or the PCM.
  5. Perform the heater function test. Refer to Function Test.

Blower Motor and Fan Replacement (RPO C60 and C68)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the VCM.
  2. Remove the coolant reservoir.
  3. Remove the rear coolant recovery reservoir mounting stud.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor.
  5. Position the VCM harness connectors out of the way.
  6. Remove the blower motor access cover retaining screws.

IMPORTANT: Cut through the cover as straight as possible because the access cover must be replaced.

Part of this repair is visible to the customer. In order to prevent damage to the component, do not cut any deeper than necessary in order to remove the access cover.

  1. Cut through the cover on the cut line (1) using a razor blade or a sham utility knife.
  1. Disconnect the cooling tube from the blower motor.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor and fan assembly.
  3. Remove the blower motor and fan assembly mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the blower motor and fan assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

  1. Install the blower motor and fan assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

  1. Install the blower motor and fan assembly mounting bolts.

Tighten

Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in) .

  1. Connect the cooling tube to the blower motor.
  1. Install the blower motor access cover.
  2. Install the blower motor access cover retaining screws.

Tighten

Tighten the screws to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in) .

IMPORTANT: Do not use RTV. Apply the adhesive bead as straight as possible. Allow the adhesive to set for 15 minutes or until the adhesive becomes tacky.

  1. Seal the cut line using black weather-strip adhesive.
  2. Connect the electrical connector to the blower motor.
  3. Reposition the VCM harness connectors.
  4. Install the rear coolant recovery reservoir mounting stud.
  5. Install the coolant reservoir.
  6. Install the VCM.
