the cylinder numbers on a v-8 engine are numbered from the left bank or cylinder head. standing in front of the vehicle , the nearest plug on the left side of engine is number one w/ remaining being two ,three & four. plug number five starts nearest to right front of vehicle w/ six ,seven ,& eight following toward the rear of engine . each coil is numbered the same as the cylinder plug.
firewall 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front of Ford F-150 ( with the Coil On Plug ignition system )
i know if you have the 5.4L V8 you will have coil packs. not spark plugs
First thing is to make sure you have fire (spark) at the spark plugs. If not change the ignition coil.
I don't think your car has a distributor cap. I believe it has an electronic ignition and only has an ignition coil to deliver spark to the plugs. Where this is located, I do not know.
On a 1998 Ford Expedition : One way is : The 4.6 has the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ( EDIS ) and has ( 2 ) coil packs and ( 8 ) SPARK PLUG WIRES The 5.4 has the Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system and has ( 8 ) individual coils
The 1992 Rangers have a distributorless electronic ignition system and if the ignition coil packs are an issue the resistance of them can be checked with an ohm meter to tell if they are OK.
Go to AutoZone have them rear your codes for FREE. This way you will know which Coil Pack is goig bad / or is bad. If you have a 4.6L you will have only 2 Big Coil Packs. If you have the 5.4L you will have 8 Coil Packs , One coil pack for each cylinder.
I know them as : firewall 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front I'm not a mechanic / technician but I assume coil " E " would be # 5
ANSWERWhat do you need to know about the coil ignition wires? we can't help unless we know what the problem is lol be just a little more specific
don't know why
The car may misfire or not accelerate properly
i dont know ask your mummy.
