yhis may be a little late, but here it goes:
crawl inside and remove the panel from the door. inside you will see 2 metal linkages; one is for the lock, the other is for the latching mechanism. push up on the lock linkage, and pull down on the other.
i'm having the same problem. can't find a replacement handle.

The headlights I know are on a 2001 Chevy Astro (Mine) there is a 10mm bolt holding the corner reflector on the body that gives you access to the lower bolt on either the left or right sides to remove the headlight assembly there are two 10mm bolts on the top of the assembly also to remove ;;the assembly then slides to the outside and tilt forward for replacement of the bulbs.
you need to remove the inner door panel because there is most likely a rod that has come out of place. look for it too be hanging loose some where close to the latch or the outter handle the rod should reatach to the door handle assembly some what easilly

You will have to remove the entire door panel to get at the screws that hold the handle assembly to the panel.
Go to Autozone, in the HELP! section you will find replacement door handles for the Safari/Astro (they break that often) the instructions come with. This costs under $20
