First, you'll need a container that will allow you to transport and properly dispose of the old oil. You will need a new filter, a filter wrench to remove the old filter, and the proper size wrench for the oil drain plug. You will also need 2 car ramps and a hard, level surface to work on. Drive up on the ramps, and secure the parking brake and chock the rear wheels to make sure the car doesn't roll off while you're working. Locate th oil drain plug on the oil pan, usually at the rear of the pan and place your oil receptacle underneath. Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain out. When it's done, reinstall the plug and be careful not to overtighten it. Now locate the filter. On the Caravan, it's usually on the front side of the block. Using the filter wrench, remove the old filter, and make sure the sealing gasket is not stuck to the engine. Double gaskets are a common mistake, and will allow all the new oil to immediately leak out when the engine is restarted. Lightly coat the seal on the new oil filter with fresh motor oil and install hand tight. Now fill with the correct amount of oil for your particular engine, drive off the ramps and shut the car down. Wait a few minutes and verify the oil is at the correct level and there are no leaks. Be sure to dispose of the old oil safely. It is considered hazardous waste. OR Look in your Sunday paper for a discount coupon for oil changes...there are several in my area for under $20 and that's worth it for me to avoid the hassle of all that work!
