No, no, no. There is a small button beside the rotary headlight switch. If you press it say three times, you will hear a chime and the daytime running lights will turn off. I am not sure exactly how many time you have to press it, but give it a try.
If this doesn't work just pull the DRL fuse in the fuse box, the only other thing on this circuit is heated seats and if you don't have those then yank it.
---another thing to investigate---
If I remember the DRL circuit correctly, the circuit makes DRLs work by putting two big diodes in series with the power supply to the headlights. These diodes have the effect of dropping the voltage supplied to the headlights by about 1.5 volts in DRL mode. The circuit also has a switch to ground located on the emergency brake foot pedal. You will observe that with key on, engine running, you can actuate the emergency brake and headlights go out in DRL mode....(not sure about regular moide)......anyhow, my thought was to install a separate switch to ground that taps into that emergency brake switch wire. That way, you could control the DRLs by simulating that the emergency brake switch was being used. Check out the schematic and see if it makes sense.
slightly apply the E brake

To fix faulty daytime running lights on a 1996 Chev Suburban, check if the bulbs are blown. If so, replace it. If the new bulbs are blown immediately upon replacement, check the wiring running to the headlights.
Unplug daytime running light module. It is located on driver side just under the front of the truck.
