It uses a specific fluid. Dodge calls it Sprinter/Crossfire transmission fluid.
The dipstick is online for $40-45. I bought one. You do not leave it in the tube, though. It is strictly a shop tool.

The transmission is 100% computer controlled. If you are having a shifting issue you need to have the system checked for trouble codes.
