A 1994 Ford is OBD I / EEC IV - there is an EEC TEST connection in the engine compartment near the power distribution box

If your vehicle is 1995 or later, you will need a scanner tool to pull the trouble codes. AutoZone and similar auto parts stores offer free scans. If your vehicle is 1994 or older, you can manually pull the trouble codes. Check out a repair manual (Hayne's or Chilton's) at your local library - chapter 6 has all the details on how to do it; also what each code means and how to trouble shoot.
If the check engine light stays on , a malfunction with the emission control system has been detected , have your Ranger scanned for any trouble codes to diagnose and then repair the malfunction
Depends on what the codes were, and what caused them. Clearing codes doesn't make the issue go away.

To check computer codes on a 1994 Ford Aspire, a person will need a code reader specific to a Ford for that year. Insert the code reader in the slot provided just under the dash on the right side of the steering wheel. Wait a few minutes and read the code. Some code readers emit a green light or beep when they are finished coding.
