Open the truck & remove Philips head screw that is located to the left of the tail light housing in the trunk lid weatherstripping housing area. Next unscrew the trunk lining screw to fold back the trunk lining to get at the two plastic wingnuts that hold the light housing. Unscrew these two wing nuts and slide the housing out, then remove the bulbs and replace. Bulbs come out similarly to how you'd replace the front headlight bulbs (unplug, twist counter-clockwise to unlock and remove old bulb, replace with new bulb and turn clockwise to lock, plug back in).
It sounds like you have a short somewhere.
yes they have brake lights and you probably have a bad brake light switch which is on top of the brake pedal under the dash.
Change brake light bulbs Just remove the rear license plate. You can change the backup lights and brake light easily.
open trunk and look behind the taillights as the bulbs just twist and pull out.
Remove the two screws that hold the lens on, remove the lens and change the bulbs.
pull up on the 2 tabs that hold it to the housing. then siply twist the bulbs out of their sockets
be carefulf changing the bulbs!! especially the tail lights!! i tried to change my brake light one time and one of the prongs broke in the housing so i had to get a whole new taillight housing it was like 200 dollars for my 99 malibu.....blah. what kind of bulbs are you replacing?
The # is 1157 bulbs.
It could be the brake light switch (the switch that activates the brake lights when you step on the brake pedal) has gone bad
check the fuse then the bulbs then the brake switch
pull up on the 2 slide tabs on top of light assembly, assembly will come out so as to change bulbs.
Remove 2 screws that hold lens on, remove lens, then you should be able to change bulbs without any problems
