It's probably just as easy to get a shop to do it by the time you buy the oil, filter & drain bucket. If you want to do it you need to lift the vehicle ON STANDS!!!! not just a jack and put a drain bucket under the plug in the bottom of the oil pan. Undo the oil drain plug and let the oil drain out. Then remove the oil filter & replace it with a new one, don't have to be Hercules when you tighten it, just as tight as the old one. Make sure you lube the new filter rubber seal with some new oil before installing it and make sure the old rubber seal came off with the old filter. Then put a new drain plug gasket on the drain plug and tighten it up again don't have to Hercules & strip the pan or plug. In the valve cover you will see the oil filler cap and using a funnel you fill it up. It will take 4.5L of oil. In a hotter climate you can use 10w30 oil and for winter or a cooler climate use 5w30 oil. Your owners manual will give you the options. Oil filter part # is: Fram:PH3387A, Carquest:85040, Wix:51040. Most shops will take the old oil at no charge so you don't have to dump it anywhere illegally.
On a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix the oil level sensor is located on the Oil Pan directly underneath the Air Condition Compressor.
A 2004 Grand Prix GT will require approximately 5 quarts of oil. The type of oil required is 5 W 30.
