loosen the pulley, side the belt off, slide the new one on, tighten the pulley
loosen the bolt on the bottom of the alternator.
i also own a 96 passat GLX VR6 and it is alot of work to change the alternator in a vr6 you pretty much have to take the front of the car off you need to remove the headlights to get to the raidator then you have to remove the radator to get to the alternator from there its a pretty simple process you need to remove the belt from the alternator then remove the bolts that hold it on and put the new one on and use a screwdriver to replace the belt onto your new alternator then you have to put the whole front of the car back on hope that helps
how ofen do you change a timing belt on 96 excel
it maybe the belt for the alternator
No
Replace or tighten the A/C belt. If equipped with a serpentine belt, replace it.
Generally, as you face the car from the front, the alternator should be on the left side of the engine where the belt is. The belt drives the alternator. The alt in my '96 is right up top. You'll see an electrical connector going to it.
A squeaky alternator is sometimes a sign that the fan belt or something associated with it is squeaking, not the alternator. (Possibly the belt or belt tensioner) So first I'd make sure it's actually the alternator squeaking before I proceeded. You could try some belt dressing on the belt and see if that helps or changes the squeak. If however it is the alternator, that's usually a sign the bearing's gone out and you will need to replace the alternator.
yes, it is a interference engine

The 96 Chevy Blazer does not have a timing belt.
