If replacing the battery put the new battery on charge before you start to top it up if possible.
The Chevy Lumina battery is on the drivers side of the engine compartment. It is hidden under the windshield washer fluid tank and crossmember. The crossmember runs from the drivers side shock tower diagonally to the upper, front radiator support. Using a 9/16" socket remove the crossmember and set aside. Lift and set aside the relay panel, it should be a slide fit. Remove the washer fluid tank by pulling the 2 plastic fasteners on the front fingers of the tank straight up and off. Remove the rear bolt on the same tank (if fitted) lift the tank out and remove the hose attached to the pump, also remove the 12V power connector from the pump. Now you must remove the air cleaner by loosening the hose clamp holding it to the MAF unit. Between the filter housing and the battery shield loosen and remove the bolt. Remove the two bolts on the battery shield and lift off. Remove the negative battery connection FIRST. Then remove the positive cable connection. Lift the battery out and place aside. Clean the battery area with baking soda and warm water. Let dry and coat the battery pan with acid resisting paint (I use car body rubberized undercoat) Let dry thoroughly. Place the battery into the pan, now replace the positive cable, then the negative cable. Now install the battery cover, air filter and washer tank. Don't overtighten the clamps or bolts. Replace the relay box on it's mount and finally the crossmember. Good luck.

Change the 9/16" socket to a 13mm if you don't want to risk rounding off the bolt. Also when removing the two plastic fasteners at the front of the windshield washer fluid tank pry with a screwdriver with one hand and cover it with the other hand or they may launch into orbit like one of mine did never to be found again
i think you disconck the ground cable from the battery for at least 30 seconds
