to calculate ton on a vehicle i am assuming you are talking about how to calculate the weight that can be loaded to a vehicle
first drive unloaded vehicle to scales and have it weighed
this will give u an unladen weight
you then find the goss vehical weight(gvw) that is usually on a tag somewhere near a door of vehicle and also on registration papers
you the subtrat enpty weight ,eg 17000 lbs, from gross weight,80.000 lbs
this will give you your tare weight (load weight) 63000 lbs
63000 lbs converted to tons is 31.5
so you can load 31.5 tons onto tht vehicle
the gvw includes all all load and trappings(tarps, tiedowns, etc) fuel and passengers
14 tonne 14 tonne
what is the unladen weight of a ford escort 1.8 D van

A unladen swallow is the opposite of a laden swallow.
Typically unladen.
The word "unladen" refers to being unburdened by weight or unencumbered. It is the opposite of "laden" which would mean a heavy load or a large quantity of something.
CURB WEIGHT: the wight of a vehicle when unladen with passenger(s) and/or cargo. GVW: weight of vehicle laden with cargo and passenger(s)
Laden is the loaded weight
The 'laden weight' is the weight of a vehicle carrying some or a full payload.
Is that the African or European five-year-old boy? Also, is the five-year-old boy laden or unladen? The average foot size of a laden five-year-old boy can increase from one-half to one full size, depending on the time of day of the measurement. Measuring later in the day will result in a larger average foot size for both laden and unladen five-year-old boys. However the difference will always be lesser for unladen five-year-old boys.
The gross weight of a vehicle is the laden (loaded) weight. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the maximum gross weight the vehicle is rated for. The opposite of this would be the tare weight, which is the empty weight of the vehicle.
