The plastic cover around your 1996 Oldsmobile Are Aurora steering column is held in place with retaining clips. Pry outward on each retaining clip and the plastic cover will come off.
Disconnect the battery. Remove the plastic trim around the steering column. Remove the screws that hold the turn signal switch to the column. Disconnect the switch from the wiring and remove it.
First you have to remove the plastic around the steering column, two bolts hold on the lower plastic and two screws hold on the upper plastic from under the steering column once the plastic is removed you can access the three bolts holding the shifter assembly in place. You must first remove the transmission linkage As well as the selector linkage in order to get it free
Remove the cover on the steering column. Then remove the screw holding the plastic cover around the switch. Then turn the key while pushing in on the tab below the switch, it will click and then you can pull it out.
Remove the plastic shielding from around the steering column, unplug the multifunction switch, remove the bolts used to mount the multifunction switch. Installation is the opposite of reverse
Remove the plastic casing that raps around the steering column just behind the steering wheel. 3 Phillips screws i believe. Then 2 screws on the drivers side of the steering column pulls off the switch. Pretty easy actually.
Turn the steering wheel to the right, flip off the round plastic screw cap on the the upper section of the steering column shroud. Turn steering wheel to left and repeat on the other plastic screw cap. Remove screws and lift the upper shroud away. Locate and Remove the plastic D and C shaped screw caps from the instrument panel fascia either side of the steering column. Remove the two screws in the 'roof' of the instrument panel fascia. Ease the fascia out of the way. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel screws. Move the plastic lever on top of the panel leftwards and ease the instruments around/twist them to access the bulbs. Replace bulbs as necessary. Reverse instructions to reassemble making sure you mount the instruments straight and secure with the lever.
It is located under the lower dashboard. Remove the lower dashboard and then remove the two nuts holding the steering column up. Get rid of the plastic shell around the switch area. It is an inverted star socket.
remove three Phillips screws under plastic clam shell around steering column. Shift to low to remove both upper and lower plastic covers. unplug two gray wire connectors, remove two smaller green wire connectors. file a slot in the two faceless screws holding the ignition onto column.

u have to take Phillips head screws out of plastic around steering column, take screws from around instrument panel two screws at top and pop out small plastic panel on each side of steering colum on instrument panel and also take bolts out of steel plate under column and work it out gently. remove plastic pieces from around column then it will be on the right side of the column with 2 special star bolts in it take them out and there u have it
