If it's the center brake light above the cab, loosen the two torx screws and remove the lens. The bulb is right inside.
If it's one of the left or right rear bulbs, they're a little difficult --drop the tailgate and begin loosening the torx screws to remove the lens. It will take some doing, but the whole assembly has to come out in order to get to the bulb.
To replace the brake light on a 2001 Dodge Durango the light lens must be removed. It is held on by a clip on one side and a hinge on another. It opens like a door to access the brake light housing.

there is asensor on the rear diff...replace that and you should be ok
check and see when your brake pedal is not pushed down if it is pushing the brake swith pin back in if so you need to replace the brake light swithch located behind the pedal

To remove the tail light cover you need to open the tailgate and locate the two hex screws that hold the light in place. Once these are removed gently pull the light cover toward the rear of the vehicle.
