A lot of work...not nessasaraly tech minded stuff...but a heated garage helps, drain system first..the petcock should be at the bottom of the radiateor if you have air conditioning it may be easer to open a clamp on the return coolant at the bottom front of the engine. Catch and save coolant for reuse...[couple of gallons]then start unbolting heater box..I'm just guessing its located to the left side of the firewall as you face the front of the car...It should have two washing machine size hoses running into it.You may be able to cut these real close to the box [its best to replace these, short money]I'm sure you' start t see the problems as you proceed...If this is a Lincoln LS .....forget all this..because you havta take the Dashboard off to change the heater box.......Mabey you could try a couple of ounces of Pepper or a product called ALUM-U-SEAL..Mabey that will cure it till the spring....I'v only attempted this one time,,,b4 i called one of those travling Mechanics to finish the job............Good luck.. and excuse the spelling.
