No difference at all mechanically. Gmc and Chevy used some different trim pieces on the outside. If you are looking for parts the small pickup in each brand will also interchange. I also believe that Oldsmobile put out a version of that same body. The Oldsmobile version is called the Bravada

A 1979 Chevrolet pickup does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. The chain will last the life of the engine and is normally replaced during an engine overhaul.
