The fans on a 2000 Chevy Malibu engage when it reaches a temperature threshold around 200 degrees. It then brings the engine temperature down to an acceptable level before it is again shut off.
radiator is in front off the cooling fans ,in the front of engine.
it senses the engine temperature and sends a signal to turn on the radiater cooling fans, and it also sends info to guage in car to tell temp, of engine.
You made the mistake of buying a Chevy Malibu. Seriously though, try replacing the fans next. Trip to the local junkyard would be the cheapest, although fans aren't exactly that expensive at your local parts store.
If the coolant level is full change the thermostat if not check for leaks. You gotta be more specific with the question .......check fans.....they chould turn on whene above runing temp.... fans will kick on automaticly whene u turn a/c on
You may have bad temperature control sensor (next to thermostate where water enters the engine. Also near the air filter). If not that it is PCM module or fan control relays. Try disconnecting the connector from the temperature sensor, if fans come on the relays are OK.
Hi, If the cooling fans run for a few minutes after turning off the engine and then stop, the engine computer probably thinks that the coolant temperature is very high and is trying to cool that off. If the fans run on and on and do not stop at all, then I would say that you have a shorted control relay for the fans. So a little troubleshooting is needed for this issue. I have provided a link that describes how these fans are supposed to work and how they are controlled. Good Luck, Greg
They are both controlled by Relays and not fuses. I currently have the same problem and am looking into the solution.
check fan fuses or relays,if all is ok!! check temperature sensor to fans, disconnect fans at wireing connecter. run a wire to positive on battery from positive on fans.other wire has to be grounded, the fans will start running if they are ok!!
The fans are controlled by a temperature switch, which normally turns the fans on when the engine temp reaches about 212 to 220 degrees.
there are a few things to check--relay,fuses,coolant sensor, to check fans to see if they work.unplug elec, connector from fans, run a wire from positive on fans to positive post on battery.you might need to ground fans, if the fans are ok they should turn on.
to check fans to see if they run::first, disconnect fan wires at connections for fan. run a wire from positive on fan to positive on battery. then other wire to ground if nessesary. if fans are ok they will turn on. if fans are ok, then I would check for a bad fuse or relay, and the coolant temperature sensor on engine, the temp, sensor should be at or near the top radiator hose on end by housing.
