Yes it could, but the transmission is governed to shift at a higher rpm then a v8.
tranny shop can quickly respring it if its not electronic. say 88-90 or older.
Chevy bolt pattern at the engine to tranny is mostly the same. please remember i work with carbed , 73-88, anything newer would need to be looked at more closely, because of computer controls beening tuned for that set up, and yes that could be ways around that to make it work, but that's not my specialty.
Give use the years your trying to up together would be helpfull to answer your ? better. Many Chevy parts from the 70's to the 90's can be swapped with ease.
