If you drive an older car that has a carburetor, it could be that you need an adjustment to it. Your engine could be misfiring, but the engine light doesn't come on. You should take the car to a local mechanic, because it might need a tuneup.

Carburetor. Actually, a carburetor is not usually considered part of an engine, it's part of the fuel system. If you buy an engine, you don't get a carburetor with it. Also, most cars don't have carburetors any more.

You can but it is not a good idea. If your engine is misfiring then unburnt fuel will enter the exhaust. This will damage the O2 sensor and eventually destroy the catalytic converter costing you big time. Stop driving the car until you can have it repaired.

If your car shakes while underway, your tires have worn incorrectly from misalignment. If it shakes while in park or not moving, your engine is misfiring.
