1990 gmc siera can you put a 1996 vortec 350 in it and if so is the cam in a vortec just a good as a RV cam?
You can put the Vortec in it if you have the wiring and ecm to run it. or you could use the Vortec heads and an aftermarket intake and really wake up your engine. The vortecs use a roller cam.

The cylinder heads are diffrent. Intake from 1998 truck will not bolt up to 1990 heads.

yes they will fit, but you will need an intake manifold compatible with vortec heads if you plan on reusing the carburetor

If they are any other size Chevy engines and still retain the Vortec name then it's purely a marketing name, the same goes is it is later than a Gen I engine. For example the new 4.2L I6 from GM retains the name Vortec, but it does not actually use Vortec heads as these heads were only made for OHV engines, and the I6 is an OHC engine. The Vortec heads are based on the LT1 and LT4 head after they were discontinued along with their reverse flow cooling design. It is simply an effect made in the head similar to a vortex to better atomize the fuel and air intake charge when entering the combustion chamber, it is not a different type of motor.

Do the 305 vortec and 350 vortec have the same heads?
No. The 350 has bigger valves. While you CAN put the 305 heads on the 350, (I can't imagine why you would actually want to) you can NOT put the 350 heads on the 305. Because of the 305's small bore, the valves on the 350 heads will hit the cylinder block.
I have a98 silverado with a 305 also has a rod knock can you use a 350 out of a 1991 Chevy pick up and put my heads and intake on the 350 or do i have to find another vortec motor?
yes you should be able to do it as long as the bolts line up witch they should the only thing that makes it a vortec is the chambers in the heads plus

there is no adapter. vortec heads were cut at a diffrent slope than standard sbc heads. you can swap the heads on the 78 350 for vortech heads or get a multipoint fuel injection intake for a 85 - 95 350. you can get the intake from summitracing.com You will have to swap the heads and the intake

A pineapple grenade because you are about to mess up the 88 truck has a weak motor prob don't have as much power as the 305 vortec don't do it get computer and motor from a vortec to put in the truck
