not so fast...prior to changing to vortec, Chevy had a standard distributor with a cap that had the plug wire hook-ups pointing straight up. With the newer vortec engine, the plug wires come out the sides of the cap. The real difference is that the newer distributors require a crank sensor and have a different wiring plug.

You have to replace the intake manifold gaskets, which is not an easy job but if your mechanically inclined it shouldn't be a problem .disconnect the battery and i can not stress this enough, mark the distributors position to the engine block if not your computer will set a cam to crankshaft correlation trouble code.
