Green is "good" for 3 years.
Antifreeze/Coolant is a fluid that prevents the car from overheating or becoming so cold that it won't start. Without it, in the summer, your car would run too hot, and in the winter, your car wouldn't run at all.
Yes, you can add antifreeze / coolant to a car without flushing the radiator. It's best to use the same type that's already in your car / truck - conventional or long-life. Antifreeze / Coolant comes in 'Full Strength' which needs to be mixed with distilled water (usually 50/50 for mild weather regions, and more antifreeze 70/30 for really cold weather regions.) Also available is pre-mixed 50/50 antifreeze. PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant protects from -84 degrees to 276 degrees Fahrenheit when mixed 70/30. If it's been 2-3 years since a flush & fill for conventional antifreeze / radiator fluid, or 5 years for 'long life' antifreeze, it's likely time for a flush & fill.
no. not common at all. is car too hot , too cool does top radiator hose get too hot to touch, Normal. post symptoms.? if you keep fresh fluid in car (antifreeze ever 2 years , it all last for long time the pump on all cars are like good for 70k max. what are your symptoms. what is your mileage.
You can run up to 75 percent antifreeze without any trouble. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually , Ford states not to exceed ( 60 % antifreeze )
If it's a question of too much fluid it can overflow, if it's a question about the fluid being too concentrated - don't worry about it.
that's because car was on too long. that's because car was on too long.
If it is green in colour it is the standard anti freeze that you have seen and used on all vehicles. If it is red/brownish/pinkish/colour it is called "Dexcool".That is GM's long life antifreeze(5 years between change intervals) You do not want to wait this long .Have ENTIRE SYSTEM on car flushed every 2 years for proper maintenance
You can use any kind of antifreeze as long as it is a 50/50 mixture. Name brands are probably better to use.
As long as the engine didn't overheat you should be O.K.
So that the water used as coolant in most car radiators does not freeze overnight. If it does then, because ice expands as it freezes and melts, it can crack the engine block. The antifreeze lowers the freezing point of the coolant and reduces the risk. The more antifreeze, the less risk of freezing. But too much and it will boil when the car is running. Additives in antifreeze also reduces corrosion and raises the boiling point.
The type of car antifreeze that is safest to the environment is propylene glycol antifreeze. While it is still not totally safe, it is less toxic than other antifreeze.
