Try tightening your gas cap real tight and then give the car a day or two to see if the
light goes out. If so, good! If not, it means that the computer is trying to tell you something.
Most good auto parts stores will read the codes for you and tell you what's making your car unhappy. Then all you have to do is to fix it ;) Of course, we'll help if we can ~

It's between the engine block and the cylinder head.
If the engine is not getting enough oil pressure (the reason the light is on), then its life is dependent on just how low the oil pressure is. My 2002 Sunfire Owner's Manual (very similar engine setup) does say that it may be normal for the light to come on briefly during a hard stop, but if the light is staying on, then I would think it would lock up after only a few days. The problem NEEDS to be located and fixed ASAP; even so, engine damage has likely already occured.
