Mine stays on because the switch on my driver's side door has a short in it, indicating that my driver door is always open. Make sure that your "Door Ajar" indicator light on your console works properly, and that it is accurately indicating when the doors are open & closed.
Electrical problems can be very frustrating to troubleshoot. . .
My light wouldn't go out on my '98 Ranger. I was told to spray the door latch, on the door, with WD-40 and it fixed it. It hasn't stuck on again for over a year.
