How do you shut off the anti - theft system on a 1997 chevy malibu?
1997 fordexpedition wont start and the theft light is flashing
It COULD be the fuel pressure or if the theft system light on dash is blinking,it is that.
To turn off a service engine light soon on a 1997 Malibu, you will need to unhook the battery for up to 2 minutes. After you hook the battery back up, the light should be off.
1997 chev Malibu doesn't start but then if relay is wiggled by engine under hood car starts can this be fixed
unsrew the main bolt and pull
Access the ignition switch through the faceplate covering the radio, and look for a small 3 piece set of wires on top of the ignition switch, and start the car as normal, having the anti-theft light "not" come on, and cut the little yellow wire and the anti-theft light will come on now, and stay on forever, but the car will always start.
Usually that is accompanied by an illuminated "Security" light in the dash. The cause is usually that the ignition cylinder is failing. Chevy uses a security system called "Passlock" in the Malibu, (from 1997-2004, also in the Impala from 2000-2004), and after a few years of wear and tear the cylinders start to bind up. The security system then interprets that binding as a potential theft situation, and it will then allow the car to start but it immediately shuts off the engine. Lock cylinders will cost about $260.00 at a dealership, plus labor.

Malibu - song - was created in 1997.
You need to go to a repair shop and not a parts house and have the light diagnosed. There is a reason and you need to know what it is.
