First, disconnect the negative battery cable. I'm not a big safety nut, but there's a hefty cable from the ammeter that's connected directly to the battery. I made a pretty big mess of my wiring harness when I pulled my instrument cluster and bumped it up against the sheet metal part of the dash.
That being said, remove the four Phillips-head screws from the cluster, slide the cluster as far up the steering column as the cables will allow, and reach behind the speedo and disconnect the cable. There is a small tab on the cable that, when pressed, will release the cable from the speedo head.
Next, gently pull the main harness plug from the center of the cluster. If it's never been off, you'll have to do some wiggling of the plug to get it loose.
Finally, remove the two cables from the aforementioned ammeter. I believe they're held on with 11/32" nuts. Pay attention to where the red and black cables go. Nothing will be harmed if you get them backwards, but your ammeter will read opposite to what's actually happening.
At this point, the entire cluster can be lifted free. You'll find all the lamps held in with 1/4-turn sockets. A quick left-hand twist will free them to be removed, with the blade-style lamp easily pulled from the socket after that.
You may find that you can get to the lamps in question without pulling the cluster out, but it's so easy to remove, and it makes lamp change much easier.

There really is no easy way to do this job. Try to reach up under the dash and feel around for the tab that houses the bulb. More often that not you are going to have to pull the dash panel off. Read a manual or check out internet forums for the procedure.
