Because they can float and fly easily.
Not sure what the question means. Many pilots painted a symbol on their airplane. This was not allowed by all countries and air forces but some pilots did it anyway. The symbol was usually a small image drawn on the side of the fuselage next to the national insignia. The symbol could be a geometric design, a crest, his initials, or a drawing of an animal. Some symbols painted on the aircraft were an identification of the squadron. The French had a squadron named the Stork squadron and they painted a stork on the airplane. The Americans flying for the French were known as the Lafayette Escadrille and they painted an American Indian head wearing a headress on their planes. The Austria-Hungarian top ace painted skull and crossbones on his airplane. The Italian ace painted a prancing horse that was given to him by the Ferrara family.
