The short answer is, "They don't." United has a customer service call in number and email on their site. You can submit to either of those but I have had multiple problems with the airline losing luggage and not reimbursing. Yesterday (12/1/07) they kept an entire planeful of passengers on the runway for 40 minutes then announced that there would be an additional two hour delay because of a "mechanical problem they should have fixed the night before." The best way to get United's Attention to resolve a problem is to contact the FAA and fill out one of their forms. The FAA will then be notified every time United makes an error and they will forward the information to United. I also just discovered an advocacy site for United passengers that have been mistreated by the airline. Notice the URL is not United but UnTIED. This site will share the many customer frustrations and complaints including articles about people that United left stranded in Cancun, because they refused to re-book flights that had been delayed due to weather in connecting cities. The most they have ever done for me after costing me nearly $1000 because of errors they made, was to give me frequent flier vouchers and $100.
