If the wedding band has a company and pays taxes then yes, they would have to pay sales tax. If they are just playing for the pleasure of it and are paid (under the table ... cheating the government) then there is no tax. If a friend has a band and they play and get paid there would be no tax and if that friend has a company they can write it off as a wedding gift.
